Cohesive Communities

For as resilient of a neighborhood Jonestown seems, I am surprised Jonestown does not have a larger presence in Baltimore since Jonestown has a well-mixed blend of culture, support, and leadership.

Certain traits characterize a cohesive community, how does Jonestown fare?
While Jonestown is predominantly black, approximately 40% of Jonestown is comprised of other ethnicities creating DIVERSITY.

Recently, I passed by a BBQ at a local church.  Tantalizing scents, lovely weather, and people everywhere.

FAITH-BASED centers appear to be the backbone of Jonestown.  Lloyd Street Synagogue is a prominent locale and is part of the pulse of the neighborhood.

OUTSIDE SUPPORT is provided from local non-profit organizations led by Baltimore's trusted leaders.

The Abell Foundation, led by Bob Embry, supports the McKim Center along with other charitable organizations to improve the quality of life for those living in Jonestown.

While crime is still an issue, the glaring gap in Jonestown remains to be SOCIAL GATHERING places, specifically access to recreational centers.

There is economic value in constructing recreation centers in addition to creating a sense of belonging in the community.

Neighborhood kids agree.
